QuickTime info and Installation

To see the interactive QuickTime VR movies in Virtual Denmark you need to have QuickTime installed.

QuickTime is a free software from Apple, available for both Macintosh and Windows Computers. The technology in QuickTime allows you to enjoy digital media of more than 200 kinds. Movies, music, MIDI, MP3 and of course 360o virtual reality (VR) panoramas as the ones you can see in Virtual Denmark. QuickTime is the standard in professional video production
If you can see the small QuickTime VR movie to the right you have the necessary plugin to see the panoramas at this site.

If you can see the same QuickTime logo in the movie above you have QuickTime 5. You can now see all QTVR in Virtual Denmark.

QuickTime 5 supports cubic panoramas in which you can look in all directions also straight up and down. Click in image and move it up and around.

If you can only see an image you can turn around but no logo, you have Quicktime 4. To see cubic panoramas correctly you need to install QuickTime 5.

If you only see a broken icon you have to install QuickTime. Download QuickTime 5. The installation will take from 3 to 20 minutes depending of your intertnet connection.

WINDOWS Internet Explorer 5 and 6 users:
If you get a window asking you to install ActiveX say yes, it only takes a minute and it will solve several problems for you. ActiveX is the new way for Windows users to connect Explorer to QuickTime

ActiveX is Necessary for the latest versions of IE 5 and 6 and you should also install it for earlier versions of IE5 because many QuickTime pages today uses the configuration that asks you for the ActiveX plug-in.

Basic QuickTime VR Navigation

The image below shows the basic navigation of a standard QuickTime VR panorama. These functions will always work even if there are new sophisticated ways to navigate a QTVR.

Most panoramas today are streaming panoramas which appears after only a few seconds. You will also see some panoramas rotating automatically. Just click and hold in the image to stop auto rotating and to take control.
The streaming panoramas usually updates from right to left. This is the case for the small panoramas in Virtual Denmark. The large Full Screen panoramas updates in both directions.

Cubic panoramas can be different, most of mine will update left to right all the way round and at last the top and the bottom will be visible.

Virtual Denmark Special Features
This website provides some special features which you will not find anywhere else. This features give you the option of preloading Full Screen panoramas for viewing at the time you decide.

General: If you are using a Screen with 800x600 pixels resolution you have to expand your window by using full screen or less menus. In IE 5- PC click F11 , in IE5 Mac option B. Netscape fold your menus. Opera has a problem because you will loose CSS support in Full Screen.

The Menu: The small map takes you back to the startpage where you can choose area. For choosing language click on Virtual Denmark
The back button in the menu is not working in Netscape 4- use back in browser.

Click on the thumbnail to load the start page with text about the place and external links.

Most pages also shows the panorama as an image which you can click for a larger version.

The map link shows a map with the exact location of the panorama.

Full Screen Panoramas
The Full Screen icon preloads a larger panorama as an invisible file in a small frame in the upper right corner.

The timer counts up in seconds so that you can load the panorama in a full screen window when you wish.

While the pano is loading ,you can read text, external links or you can even view another small panorama.

Note: The timer is just a "timer" It does not stop counting when the pano is loaded.

Loading time for medium size
(700 kb) full screen panorama.
56k modem 130 sec
ADSL 500k 13 sec.

<
You do not need to download the whole panorama before you start viewing. 30% is usually enough to start the first part in full resolution.
This arrow < loads the the same large panorama in the left frame. It will adjust to any size of that frame. If you are using a very large screen with a resolution of 1280x1024 or more, this option is very usable. The optimal size for the Full Screen panoramas is 1024x768 pixels, but I have tried 1280x1024 on a 21" screen and they are amazing.

If you have problems with any of the functions on this site please give me some feedback. It is impossible to test on all types of computers, systems and configurations.

Full Screen panoramas or panoramas displayed in very large sizes is only used by my sites VR Aarhus and Virtual Denmark and at few other sites on the web. Charles Evans and Virtual Parks are the only I know of.
